Choosing a cast iron railing or a galvanized steel railing starts with a clear specification. A similar decorative outline can be made from different materials and supplied as anything from one ornamental component to a complete installed system. Compare the material, component list, finish and installation scope before comparing prices.
Cast Iron Railing and Fabricated Steel: Different Starting Points
Cast iron is shaped by pouring molten metal into a mould. The US Architect of the Capitol describes this process in its introduction to cast iron. Fabricated steel railing work instead assembles selected metal sections and decorative elements into the required design. A floral ornament or curved outline does not, by itself, prove that a product is cast iron.
The term “wrought iron railing” also appears in decorative product names. Check the actual material specification rather than treating the name as a metallurgical certificate. For example, TTD METAL model 1K is specified as galvanized hollow steel. It should not be described as a cast iron component.
Compare Construction and What Is Supplied
Ask whether the quotation covers an individual decorative baluster, a railing panel, or the complete assembly with posts and handrails. The 1K selling unit is one individual railing component; connection and installation accessories are not included. A complete system needs its own defined component list, connection details and installation responsibilities.
For a cast iron balcony railing enquiry, identify which parts are cast and which parts form the supporting structure. For a fabricated steel option, confirm the selected profiles and decorative elements. Neither a photograph nor a material name establishes the structural capacity of the finished installation.
Weight, Packing and Transportation
Compare the confirmed weight and package dimensions of the actual order. The standard 1K component is listed at 1 kg with overall dimensions of 7 × 7 × 90 cm. Those figures apply to 1K, not to the other models or a complete railing run. There is no like-for-like cast iron weight or freight quotation here, so this guide does not claim a numerical shipping saving.
Under the current TTD METAL customer policies, product prices include packaging, including export packing. Transportation charges are paid directly by the customer to the transportation provider. Compare quotations on the same supply and transportation basis.
Galvanizing, Powder Coating and Maintenance
Galvanized steel and powder coating describe different parts of a finish specification. The American Galvanizers Association explains that a duplex system combines hot-dip galvanizing with paint or powder coating. It also stresses surface preparation for coating adhesion. This general guidance does not establish that a particular TTD METAL SKU receives hot-dip galvanizing after fabrication.
The confirmed standard 1K description is galvanized hollow steel with a Satin Black powder-coated finish. For other configurations, confirm the material, preparation and coating sequence in the quotation. Ask for maintenance and touch-up instructions appropriate to the supplied finish and installation environment. No coating-life, corrosion-test or maintenance-free guarantee is inferred from the product images.
Design Flexibility and Installation Trade-offs
Individual modules allow the decorative pattern to be selected separately from the rest of the railing. The trade-off is that the complete arrangement and compatible accessories still need to be specified. A quotation for a complete installed railing has a different scope: check whether it includes measurement, site preparation, fitting and acceptance checks.
For a restoration project, matching the existing material and ornament may be a central requirement. For a new stair, porch or balcony, compare the pattern with the intended layout and supporting structure. Indoor and outdoor projects can require different finish and connection decisions; neither material choice removes the need for a suitable complete design.
Prepare a Comparable Quotation Request
Provide the application, layout dimensions, preferred model, quantity, material and finish requirements, and the components or installation services you need. Review the general installation guide, compare the decorative module designs, then request a project quotation. This makes the comparison about the supplied system and project requirements, rather than an unsupported claim that one material is always cheaper, lighter or better.
